Microsoft announced new features today including support for Open Document Format (ODF), 300 MB browser uploads and short URLs for SkyDrive images. These features may not be big but Microsoft teases us with a promise that really big things are coming soon, we are waiting to see what are those big things that are coming to SkyDrive.

ODF is a XML base document format for spreadsheets charts, presentation and word processors. Microsoft Office, Open office and other word processors support this format. With the ODF support in SkyDrive I think we can upload and edit ODF documents online, I haven't tested this so far.

SkyDrive files can shared to twitter from the SkyDrive web interface. Windows Phone images shared via twitter will carry a short URL (sdrv.ms) instead of the long SkyDrive urls. Another feature added today is that now users can upload files upto 300MB in size directly from browser.

Microsoft is adding features to SkyDrive from quite some time after ignoring it for years. SkyDrive will be integrated to Windows 8 and will offer premium plans sooner than later. With the expected launch of Google Drive it is interesting to see what other features are planned for SkyDrive to compete with Google.
