Microsoft has given a tough competition to AMD by introducing its new System-on-Chip (SoC) processor for the new Xbox 360 250GB Slim Kinect-ready model with a 45nm processor. It is going to be first processor for its class to have CPU, GPU, memory, and I/O logic all combined together on a single chip. It is a rocking answer to AMD's Fusion and Intel's Sandy Bridge Processor.
This processor will be more energy efficient, as the internal heat will be diminished here in, it will also have low manufacturing cost compared to its predecessors. It will have a revitalized motherboard and small power supply units. SoC will be a new slim model with fewer chips compared to previous processors, that'll require less power supply and will have improved heat management system. It will have 372 million transistors, which is quite less than prevailing processors.
The SoC has taken a period of 5 years to be developed, Microsoft has assured of fully congruity between the old and new Xbox 360 consoles. It will have same latency and bandwidth as the old system has. It will be fully compatible with the Xbox as it will copy the bandwidth of older system with separate CPU and GPU. Hopefully, it will also cost less to customers, as its manufacturing cost will be less.
